About Fernando Pessoa

Fernando Pessoa is the most well-known Portuguese Poet from the 20th century. Pessoa moved to South Africa at the age of seven. Moved back to Lisbon when he was seventeen and lived in Lisbon in the Carmo Convent Square.

Pessoa wrote in English and Portuguese as he was a bilingual and bicultural poet. He also wrote under many different pen names he called heteronyms. The first pen name he used was David Merrick, at the age of 16 in South Africa. But  the most well-known are – Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis and Álvaro de Campos.
