Fernando Pessoa is the most well-known Portuguese Poet from the 20th century. He was raised in South Africa and lived in Lisbon in the Carmo Convent Square. Pessoa that was also a writer and a philosopher, work as a literary critic, a translator and a publisher.
Pessoa wrote in English and Portuguese because, as a consequence of his education, he was a bilingual and bicultural Poet. He also wrote under many different heteronyms – Alexander Search, Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis and Álvaro de Campos were the most important. His first job was at R.G. Dun & Company, an American mercantile information agency, currently D&B, Dun & Bradstreet.
