This beautiful cork trivet with, black, transparent and golden swallows is an original by Portuguese artist Luís Val.

Swallows, the small birds with dark, glossy-blue backs, red throats, pale underparts and long tail streamers are extremely agile in flight and spend most of their time on the wing. They are widespread breeding birds in the Northern Hemisphere, migrating south in winter.

Swallows are a welcome sign of spring and are strongly liked to the sea, sailors  and sailing. They arrive in Europe, coming from Africa in the early April.
