This aqueduct, also called “Aqueduto das Águas Livres” has been supplying water to the city of Lisbon since 1748. It’s considered a master-piece of Portuguese engineering of the Baroque period with a set of 35 arches over the Alcântara valley covering 941 m. The tallest arches reach a height of 65 m.
The aqueduct as 14 km since the main spring and a network of subsidiary aqueducts with a total of 58km.
